I've been thinking about another way to approach it. A few people agree to be intermediaries. A Grobie wants to contribute money or goods to another Grobie. She sends a PM to an intermediary explaining what and to whom she wants to contribute. The intermediary contacts the potential recipient to inquire if she would be okay with that, and if so, gets the person's address. Then the intermediary contacts the contributor with the recipient's address.

This could work in a number of different ways. For example, say a number of people are interested in contributing money to a Grobie who needs dental work done. They send their checks to an intermediary who collects them and then sends them on to the recipient, after first having gotten the recipient's permission, of course. Or a Grobie is replacing a computer that still works fine with a newer one with more "bells and whistles." She would like to give the older computer to another Grobie who doesn't have a home computer, so she contacts an intermediary, who then PMs the intended recipient. The intermediary lets other people know on the Web site that monetary contributions would be welcome to pay for a year's worth of Internet service. The Web site does not have to list anyone's name, so no one would be embarrassed. Except for announcements, most of the work would be done through PMs.

I don't see this as charity, I see it as sharing, with both the giver and the receiver benefiting. Years ago I suddenly became a single mother with no job and a child with disabilities to support. Someone told me she was sending me the tithe she ordinarily would give to her church. I was very proud and turned her down at first, but she was firm. It was a turning point that taught me about how we really are all in this together. Once I got on my feet I began to "pay it forward."
