We were giving the backpacks to the Foster kids that the Optimist organization takes care of. The heat kept a lot of the foster families away, but of those that showed up, all the kids were adorable and sweet and polite. CUTE kids (even the teens). I wasn't supposed to include any of the foster children in these pictures except the couple their families had given us permission to do so.
The Anaheim Grobies, led by Shauna, and anyone in Los Angeles area interested to do so had gathered at Shauna's house near Disneyland to pack the backpacks with toys, games, puzzles, and stuffed animals earlier this month. The items had been purchased by GFC that morning at a local Target store with Grobies doing the shopping from a list of items needed that had been provided by GFC and the Optimists. After a scrumptious pot luck lunch we proceeded to break into groups and stuff the backpacks with the items. They were sorted by age and sex, and a list of each age group had been broken down so we would know how many of each there was.
I don't have pictures of the backpack packing party, but here are pictures of the picnic. In attendance were the Social services people from Optimist: Jennifer, Diana, oh no, I've forgotten all the names!!!
Well, from GFC were Val and Julie, and Grobies Holly, Nessa, and me Kathleen. If I've forgotten anyone, and I know I have, please forgive me, I didn't write any of this down and I'm usually bad with names.
