Josh to Finland! | ||
|
Let's move this thread up a littlebit. I have to post here 'cause a) I'm a Finn and b) LittleCreature and IntellektuElli are the only persons
discussing (with each others
). There has to be more Finnish grobanites
out there, where are you people???
So, my thoughts on the subject: I would LOVE Josh coming to Finland, pretty please ?. I'm just not so sure that people here knows who he is... . I have heard TWYA on the radio station Iskelmä (once), and others stations plays only hit music like Linkin Park etc. I guess that if and when Josh
desides to come here we the Finnish grobanites have to start a real mission to get the word out about Josh (posting messages on discussion boards, requesting
Josh's songs on the radio and so on... ) I mean real bombing in
every direction, hehee .... Spreading the Josh like someone has said
here in the forums before . I'm going to do my part, including
buying as many tickets as I can afford and then I'm going to drag my friends to watch him! Damn, I'm a mean person . Well, can't help it, I have bonded too much to Josh .
Good night everyone, I'm off to bed (time is here 10:15 pm) |

Another Finn here, desperate to get Josh in our country! :-) I once asked WB Finland about it, and they said they've tried to get him here (that was about
two years ago), but that so far it hasn't succeeded. So, they're trying! Here's hoping we get him here on the next tour!

Hey LittleDaisy! The Finns crawl out of their holes when sun begins to shine.. Nice to have you here.

Oh yes, an intimate concert for the Finnish Grobies would be nice!
I
just wish Josh was promoted a bit more here; I'm sure more people would know about him. I've seen big ads (in the metro, bus stops, etc) about obscure
bands I've never even heard about, but for example for Noel, I didn't see a single ad anywhere. If such bands get premium ad space, Josh definitely should be right up there
with huge posters!

Finally! More Finnish grobanites!!! But yes, it's a real shame that so few people in this country know who Josh is
I've basically had to introduce him to my friends and family. At least we
are singing You Raise Me Up in kevätkirkko this year with the school choir (I'm in high school...) which means at least my music teacher knows who he is
And oh yeah, the only ad for Noel that I saw was in an Anttila
catalogue, which doesn't really even count. People in this country are so ignorant about good music...

Wow.. I didn't see Noël anywhere in December. In most cases they didn't even have any information on the album which is rather strange considering I
went to the biggest stores in Helsinki.. The problem in Finland is that people listen to what's played on radio and Josh's songs are not on the
playlists. Finnish people buy the music they hear on the radio (hence all the compilation albums each summer from NRJ etc.). I'm so annoyed everytime when
I hear the Westlife version of You Raise Me Up. Gaaaaaah.. Puke. Maybe we should start attacking radio stations requesting Josh's songs..

Good idea! And yes, Nova keeps playing the Westlife version of YRMU and it really is puke. Stupid commercial radio stations!!! They never play anything worth
listening.

I have a vague memory of a campaign some US Grobies did at the beginning of Josh's career: they kept requesting his music from various radio stations to
help spread the Josh. Maybe we should indeed do the same! I think at least Nova would be one, and certain Josh songs could easily be requested from Groove FM.
I think that the biggest reason for Josh not being well-known here is that WB just doesn't market him here, and marketing is huge. All it would take is some ads in the metro, bus stops, a couple of mags and papers, and also in stores like Anttila when a new CD comes out. However, someone pointed out to me once that maybe Finns like "darker" music, being a nation with a touch of the Slavic melancholy. This person said that at least for her, for example You Raise Me Up was too sugary and "American". I told her Josh has a great variety of songs, but she wasn't eager to explore further. Dunderhead Dunno if that's true for many people, though, or if it
was just that one person, but it made me think. I think what might broaden Josh's image here would be to hear more of his more eclectic/his own songs, such
as Weeping, Machine, February Song, etc.
Or maybe that's just because I really dig those!
PS. Forgot to ask, anyone gonna buy the Awake Live CD/DVD? I was thinking of ordering it from Amazon UK (comes out May 12th there), and I believe all DVDs sold in the UK store have to be region code 2, so our region.

You have a point there. Finnish melancholy doesn't really go together with Josh's music. Just had a conversation about it today with one of my friends.
If you listen to Finnish pop/rock more than an hour it's really not a brainer anymore why the suicide rates are higher each year. I'd slit my wrists
too if I'd listen to those songs everyday.. Ok, that's my dark humour, nevermind. Shouldn't joke around with serious stuff like that.
I ordered my copy today from cdon.com. Coming out on May 7th! I was thinking about ordering from HMV but then again, the delivery would be more expensive. Actually now that I think about.. I don't really mind how much it costs as long as I get the combo.

I ordered the Internet only edition ages ago from the WB store
It
should be here soon... Usually all music DVD's are region 0 so they'll play in any DVD player whatsoever. And yeah, I suppose that Finns are so
depressed they don't like uplifting music. Besides, what with the whole Heavy Metal craze swiping over the entire nation, it'll take desperate
measures to make Josh known here. And it's true, WB just doesn't market him here so we'll have to take matters in to our own hands I suppose.

Hmm. I was gonna order mine from WB also but I wasn't sure about the region.. I've stumbled to region 1 music DVDs before so I didn't wanna take a
chance. Yay.. It's gonna be here right on time for my birthday, haha.

Yeah, I've been thinking about the melancholy idea ever since I talked to that person. Then again, you'd think the melancholy-loving part of the nation
would love especially the ballads, so I dunno. Joshlessness here could simply be just because he isn't marketed here at all. I know I've
Grobanized Finns successfully, and sounds like you gals/guys have, too! :-)
Anyway, with the last tours I've noticed an interesting thing: all the European countries that were on Josh's tour list were countries that he came to for a short promotional visit (TV show or two, etc.) some months before the actual tour. I'm not sure if that happened in every single country, but I remember noticing it was true for many of the tour countries. So, since then I've always paid attention to his non-tour European visits. I daresay if he pops into Finland for even a day, he'll also have a concert here. Re: the DVD. I hadn't thought of cdon.com, thanks for the tip! And I didn't know HMV delivered overseas, that's another good thing to know. I guess I've been too restricted with my shops; I usually only shop at Amazon and Play.com. I've been a bit vary of ordering this DVD yet, as the last Josh concert DVD I ordered was region 1 (can't remember if it was Play.com or WB, but I honestly thought I was going to get region code 2), and I've only been able to watch it twice (cos I can watch different regions with my computer only 5 times, and then the last region played sets in). At least Amazon has no mention of the Awake Live's region code, and I wonder if the other shops do. Must do some checking...

Well knowing Josh's voice and looks it's really not that hard to convert people..
If you order from Amazon I'd suggest to order from the UK site, amazon.co.uk, to get that DVD on region 2 coding.

Ooh, if Josh did a promo visit in Finland, I'd be there, armed and prepared with camera, pen, smelling salts, etc....
Yeah, I always order from Amazon UK, and Play.com is a UK company, too, but I'm still a bit unsure about the DVD region in these stores based on my LATG experience. I notice Play.com now has the mention of region code 1 in LATG, but it definitely wasn't there before. So, I'm freaking out a bit in thinking that they don't have up-to-date product information because the DVD is not out yet. I tried to check Finnish shops, but none has it (WB Finland has it listed on their site, though). You know, I should seriously stop mucking around like a neurotic maniac and just order it and then simply return it if it's the wrong region code!
EDIT: Done and ordered from Amazon UK! YAYYYYY!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Yay!!! Good for you!! Hope you get your DVD soon!!! I just got a confirmation from cdon.com that mine was sent today so I'll probably get it by Thursday! Can't wait!!!!!
