Wow, I don't know what to say.

It's different..., not just the actors. The story is a bit different - Freddie Trumper's role change, other songs, other things.
Josh is magnificent, much more relaxed and confident than he was on Broadway in 2003. His level of experience certainly shows. Heaven help my heart too! So far, I prefer Julia Murney, Sutton Foster, Norm Lewis and Raul Esparza, although the actress playing Svetlana is doing a great job right now with Someone Else's Story. No Grammies for Josh yet? Maybe that's because he's meant to win a Tony first. I'm not saying, I'm just saying... I'm loving this - it's bringing back wonderful memories of an enchanted September evening in NYC...
Now, back to the music.

Wow .... I'm speechless.
All I can say is ... Josh, you were BORN for musical theatre. Your voice .... your expression .... spectacular. An absolutely breathtaking performance ... cannot wait for the DVD & CDs to arrive at the end of July. Fellow Grobanites ... I have a feeling that we may have witnessed the beginning of a new act in this play ... and it gets a standing ovation from this seat. Ciao - Northern Star (Cathy)

LOVED IT!
Well, one minor snag...disliked the reuse of Anthem.... but I have a very personal reason for it so... Other then that, pure joy, especially that they ran it without commercials. Malin

WASN'T CHESS FANTASTIC! IS THIS THE ORIGINAL VERSION THAT TIM RICE AND THE "ABBA FELLOWS" WROTE? IT'S VERY DIFFERENT FROM THE MUTATIONS THAT
BROADWAY DID TO IT PUTTING DIALOGUE WITH AND FOR THE WONDERFUL MELODIES. LOOKING AT JOSH'S PERFORMANCES OF CHESS ON YOUTUBE SHOWS HOW MUCH HE HAS MATURED
SINCE THE ACTORS EQUITY PERFORMANCE. IT WAS SUCH A DREAM OF MINE FOR A LONG TIME TO HAVE THIS SHOW RECORDED WITH JOSH AS ANATOLY. ADAM PASCAL WAS INCREDIBLE AS
WELL. I WAS MOVED TO TEARS AT THE END AS WELL. SOME REVIEWS SAID JOSH NEEDED WORK WITH HIS ACTING COMPARED TO HIS VOICE AND THE OTHER ENSEMBLE ACTORS. BUT I
DISAGREE; I THINK HE HAD AN EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE AND I WAS SO PROUD OF HIM AND THEIR ENTIRE PRODUCTION (THE LYRICS, THE SCORE, THE ACTORS, THE CHOIR, THE
DANCERS, THE STAGING AND THE ORCHESTRA. I HOPE ALOT OF PEOPLE GET TO SEE THIS WONDERFUL SCORE; THE MUSIC IS SO INCREDIBLE. IT WAS ALSO SO MUCH FUN TO SEE JOSH
IN THIS TYPE OF SETTING, ONE WHERE MOST OF US ARE EXPERIENCING HIM IN A CLASSICAL, FORMAL APPEARANCE FOR THE FIRST TIME. HE'S SUCH A PRO!!!! CAN YOU
IMAGINE HOW HIS FOLKS MUST HAVE FELT WATCHING HIM PERFORM IN THE AUDIENCE - WHAT A THRILL FOR THEM.
DID ANYONE GET THE PHONE NUMBER WHERE WE CAN CALL AND GET A COPY OF CHESS, OR WILL BARNES AND NOBLE BE CARRYING IT? WHAT DID EVERYBODY THINK OF NO INTERRUPTIONS FOR A PLEDGE DRIVE? WASN'T THAT A TREAT!!!! BETTY |

What? The DVD isn't coming out until July? I hope that's wrong. I pre-ordered it from WBG ages ago.
I expected Josh's singing to be spectacular, but I was afraid his acting might be a little wooden. Not at all; his acting was quite good. Particularly at the end he was very powerful, and yes, I had tears in my eyes. I've heard his "Anthem," oh, a hundred times or so now, including on my ipod, but it was a pleasure seeing and hearing it on the tv. I'm glad the audience's standing ovation wasn't cut out. Although I don't care that much for Idina Menzel's voice, I thought she did a good job. That is a demanding part. The duet between her and Kerry Ellis, "I Know Him So Well," sent shivers down my spine. Much of the music is really beautiful. The only thing I didn't like was the choreography of the dances during the chess sequences. Oh yeah, and Josh looked like he shaved, always a plus in my book. |

Betty, this version was very different then the original.
Björn and Benny from ABBA wrote the music and Tim Rice wrote the lyrics. For the performance Tim and the director used various parts of the music and made up a few new songs. As for the LIMITED EDTITION some of us order through WBR, the 2 CD/1DVD is not coming until July 21st according to the e-mail I got on the 16th. I odn't know if WBR are selling the other versions. Just go to the store here at jg.com and read what they are saying and check what you ordered. Malin

Holla! Got home to find it on re-run on PBS. Watching it now. Just finished 24 minutes. So far, I'm amazed at how similar to "Jesus Christ
Superstar" the melodies and method of delivery are. I have the JCSS soundtrack on CD. At one time, I knew and could sing every part. I loved that musical!
