What are books that your sons enjoy that don't have animals or planes, boats, trains, etc. I'm working as a personal assistant/respite care provider and the 8 year old I'm sitting for has the vocabulary of a 2-3 year old and is terrified of animals of all kinds, even dogs. Thanks!!! Get a completely blank book and some crayons? Computer instructions may also work (plus put the kid to sleep). OK, this is a difficult one, given that my kids love animals, planes, boats, cars, etc. in the books. Is the kids terrified of insects? Maybe a book about bugs. Or one about fish. Just walk aorund the children's section of the library and see what's there. Ron

I wonder if pictures of animals would freak him out. The only books with animals I've used are Richard Scary/other illustrated ones. Slobcat was one we read today and he enjoyed an illustrated Shark book. He loves to draw but we need to work on the language development more than the drawing. He is a really good artist. As far as the modes of transportation, I just want him to branch out from that kind of books. Ya know? He seems to enjoy the Richard Scary books I have. As far as computers, a teacher gave me a game he can keep. I'll ask dad next time about that. Because he doesn't know the language really well, he's shy, so it's hard to know how much English he really does know. Dad doesn't help because he won't translate the stuff from Korean to English thus giving the words meaning when he's speaking to his son. Or even if I'm speaking to the son. Well, I got a bit sick so I took a day off from work 'cause I don't want to get worse on Sunday!!! aaah...that day I'm leaving with Joe to Miami for a week. We'll stay in South Beach and at my bro's place for shabbat (in Aventura)....it's such a beautiful place over there! You know, I'm so glad that there's a thing called facebook because my brother is finding relatives that are related to my dad's family! A 6 year old Chicago area boy was sent several applications for a credit card in the mail. The family filled one out with the legit ssn, birthday, etc. Family income $0.00. The bank sent him a credit card anyway and blamed it on human error, then took it away. Now Mom has to explain why he can't have one. Needless to say, she was shocked that the bank was that stupid in the first place. Kind of scary that a 6 year old can be granted a credit card. We had an all-day meeting at a hotel in Maryland, and by coincidence the meeting next door to ours concerned Jewish genetic diseases! I didn't get to talk to anyone from the meeting, but I think I picked up a brochure from some company. I've also been a bit AWOL because my wife has had me play travel agent again. Lauren, I hear about credit card offers to kids all the time. Even scarier, identity thieves may be using the Social Security numbers of children and the parents do not even know it! A parent can check a child's credit rating with each of the credit reporting companies, but not through the Federal Trade Commission web site. bp, I guess this is why the Jewish thread is in the "Other Topics" forum. Many of the threads here do not necessarily discuss Josh, so this one is really no different. Not everyone who posts here is Jewish, but we are pretty welcoming. I guess they offer pets credit cards too. Sending kids and pets applications should be considered a crime. Chava has said in Jon Christos' thread that it may be a while after the wedding before she can get back on, in terms of getting an internet connection in the new apartment. Have fun playing travel agent, especially with the costs for everything skyrocketing and some airlines even charging for a glass of water. What next, charging to go to the bathroom on the plane? Do you have a travel agent you can use? In the long run, you save money by using them. It's especially great to have one if your flight is cancelled or going to be late. There's a lot of stuff for me to accomplish between now and about Wednesday, when I am supposed to go on vacation. Lauren, We are not flying this time around. My "travel agent" duties involve hotel web pages, Priceline, Hotwire, Tripadvisor, and BetterBidding.com. Let's just say it's a pretty complicated process. However, I think we will get a $50 gas card out of all this. Some of the identity theft done to minors has been attributed to illegal aliens picking Social Security numbers at random. Joe had two small bags and I had one bag when we went to FL and they wanted to charge him as well. So in the end, he took one of his bags with him to the plane instead of paying for an extra bag! that's crazy... But anyway, we went with Jetblue airlines and I'm really happy with the airlines. Going there, we didn't have any delays, but coming back....we had to stay in the plane for a whole hour because they had to fix something. However, the staff kept on telling us that it's better to be safe. A day later, I get an email from jetblue and they apologized again and gave me and Joe $25 electronic voucher. I thought that was nice....I mean, I've been in worse airlines such as Israir!! Hi Ron! Hi Chava- how's married life?? we need photos..hehe Miriam- how you doing?
