PBS pledge drive revs up
Channel 23 relies on music to spur revenue
By Mike Hughes, Lansing State Journal
A new pledge drive starts tonight at WKAR (Channel 23), promising more more concerts, pop psychologists and memories for the local PBS channel.
Lawrence Welk, dead for a decade, has a show Saturday. Other specials will have old rock stars, old folk stars, old Christmas shows.
Is there anything here for people who aren't old?
Josh Groban thinks so. He's 21, with an audience that screeches when he sings; his concert launches the pledge drive today.
"I've always loved PBS," Groban said by phone. "It's cool. I've watched it since 'Mister Rogers (Neighborhood).' "
